The Holden Beach Beautification Club has chosen a yard on OBW as the July Yard of the Month. This charming “Beach Cottage” is the home of Rob and Melody Megill. Since purchasing this home in 2015 Rob and Melody have poured heart and soul into both the home and the gardens. The home had no landscaping in 2015. Since then they have defined several garden areas.  Plantings include yellow cannas, red salvia, mums, portulaca, red and peach zinnias, Mexican heather and multiple types of succulents and cacti to name a few.  Other features include a bird bath and cute bird houses.  Congratulations Rob and Melody!

We hope our residents and guest enjoy the patriotic seasonal decor in Padgett Garden! Special thanks to Mary and Roger Boettcher, 2020 YOM winner, and their three granddaughters for helping!

The Holden Beach Beautification Club has chosen the yard on Golden Dune Way as the June Yard of the Month.  Sharon and Rob Wingate have spent countless hours creating an amazing yard.  Sharon enjoys filling colorful ceramic planters with impatiens, geraniums and begonias to name a few.  Other plants include black diamond crepe myrtles, a large sego palm, polka dot plants, Kimberly queen ferns and many more.  Congratulations Sharon and Rob!

Flowers Feed the Soul

The Holden Beach Beautification Club held its annual Luncheon and Installation of Officers at the Lockwood Folly Pool House. Outgoing President Linda Rast thanked members for their service this year and recognized her Board Members and Committee Chairs. The theme for the year, “Flowers Feed the Soul”, was discussed as Members looked back over the year. Secretary Denise Mirandola recognized new members and presented Dolly Mitchell with a Golden Gardener rose for her 15 years of service and membership in the Club. After hearing from guest Town Mayor Alan Holden, Linda presented the Trowel Award to Vicki Myers and Denise presented the Member of the Year Award to Eve Venters.

Officers for the ’21-’22 year were installed. Denise Mirandola will serve as President, Eve Venters will serve as 1st Vice President, Marlene Barz will serve as 2nd Vice President, and Susan Gibble will serve as 3rd Vice President. Debbie Jancula will be our Secretary and Vicki Myers will serve as Treasurer.

Luncheon Chair Sandie McClellan and her committee of hostesses went with a coastal themed decor utilizing succulents and conch shells. Bennie Hall presented outgoing President Linda Rast with a large succulent display as a thank you for her hard work this year. The Decorations committee handmade the centerpieces which were given as door prizes to lucky attendees.

It was a “hail” of a Plant Sale! The 2021 HBBC Plant Sale was not what we initially planned but it was still a big success! Due to Covid-19 our usual location at the Town’s Emergency Operations Center was not available to us. The Plant Sale Committee, chaired by Gayle Todd with help from Cecelia Weston and Eve Venters persevered and found a spot for a one-day sale. Art Committee Chair Tawanna DeAngelis readied all the work done this past year. Lisa Andersen at Anaya Tribe on the Causeway was gracious enough to offer us her beautiful garden area for the sale. After a great morning, it stormed, hailed, and poured rain then cleared up in the afternoon for the rest of the sale. Thanks to the many members who worked the sale and to our customers who came out to support us by purchasing the hundreds of plants and artwork.

The Committee is already eagerly planning on next year’s sale which promises to be the largest and best Plant Sale yet. We can’t wait!

Pam and Terry Lucas have a small but well tended garden  with Mexican primrose, yellow bearded iris, daffodils, Purple Heart, purple verbena, mondo and muhly grasses,  and day lilies. The yard also has a grouping of  palm trees, a crepe Myrtle, and shell arrangements at the bases of the palms for an added artistic interest. Congratulations Terry and Pam!

The Town’s facilities are still closed to us but we couldn’t stand the thought of canceling the Plant Sale again this year! Our hardworking HBBC Plant Sale Committee has scoured all the quality nurseries in this part of NC and SC and picked some incredibly beautiful, healthy, locally-adapted plants for you to choose from. Our Club members have also grown plants from their own gardens for you to browse. Our Art Committee has items to brighten your home and garden as well! Back by popular demand – GLOVES! Everyone asks to buy these incredible gardening gloves and once you have tried them they will be your favorites too.

Stop by Anaya’s Friday, May 7th and see us. The best part of the plant sale is that proceeds are used to beautify Holden Beach!

The Easter Bunny visited Holden Beach and left springtime decor for us to enjoy!  When you enter the island check out the colorful eggs, bunnies, and whirly-gigs in Padgett Garden.  Thanks to Janet Carter (chair) and the Seasonal Decor Committee for their whimsical display!
